CSGO Skins: Bestselling PC Game?

CSGO has been out for three years now, and the franchise itself has been out for almost seventeen years already. But despite its age and a simmering down of popularity, its sales continue to swell. Because at this point in time, CSGO has sold 24 million copies; imagine how many CSGO skins that would be.

According to SteamSpy, a site that collates Steam data, there are over 24.5 million Steam users who own a copy of Valve’s present-day team-based modern-day first-person shooter. This makes  the game the bestselling PC game on the game platform, arguably on the PC, and more arguably, of all time.

CSGO Skins: Behind The Millions

Many reasons could be attributed to the staggering number of copies the game has already one. First would be the fact that the Counter-Strike franchise has become a staple in the FPS scene, thanks to its age and its simplicity as a game. The ubiquity of Steam is also a big help, as well as the fact that they’re both earned by Valve.  After all, it’s only natural for Valve to give its game a bit of a promotion.

And of course, there’s also the eSports scene, which helps make the game more popular. In fact, CSGO is one of the most popular games that have an eSports scene, along with League of Legends and DoTA 2. The two, however, do not have any price tag attached to them. Speaking of which, it’s also one of the most-played Steam games, as it trails behind DoTA 2.

But despite the big number, this doesn’t reflect the number of new users. After all, there are a lot of CSGO cases where CSGO players create a second Steam account and buying a copy of CSGO in it so they can “smurf”, which is to play on lower levels or on a separate account so that they can play for fun or earn more CSGO skins. After all, CSGO skins betting is pretty big. But hey, it still does count, and a copy sold, whoever bought it, is still money for Valve.
